Compromise Stacking
We’ve all done it, right?
You know what it’s like.
You have a very clear vision for what your business is about, and what you offer, and then a potential client wants something different.
For most of us there is a little given and take, and we can often flex to meet a client's needs without compromising on our vision or services too much.
UNTIL…
Then next comes another client, who wants what the previous client wanted, but a bit different again.
One answer is to be rigid about who you are and what your business is about, and not to accept compromise, instead moving the client to your vision, rather than your vision to the client. I love this concept, and it works for some companies (I'm looking at you, Apple), but for most of us, we can't be so rigid - we need to pay the bills and eat, so there has to be a little give and take.
BUT it is interesting to see how many people I've worked with who are now a few years down the line, and their business has changed so much after making these small compromises that don't really change much on their own, but eventually stack up, and divert you from what you want, one degree at a time. And then make you wonder why you're doing it at all.
I've been guilty of this, and in the long term, it just doesn't work. Stacking compromise after compromise just moves you further and further away from your path and vision, and more importantly, BEING who you want to be.
⛰️ It's important for me to come back every few months and check in with the vision, and make corrections. And if you haven't ever done this, maybe now is the time to start.
Are you still aligned with your vision? And how do you keep your business on track against it?
