FAQ - Meet Your Mountain

Accommodation and Food

Q.  Does the event include accommodation?

A. No, the event does not include accommodation. We can send you some recommendations in the local area, and we also encourage attendees to join a WhatsApp group (optional) prior to the event, so we can arrange to meet up when you get there the night before, if you wish.

Q. What about food?

A. Ah, the important question! We do not provide food for the event. We recommend a good breakfast before the event, and a lunch and snacks containing a decent number of calories, that doesn't take up too much space in your bag. After each event there will be an option to join us for a post-walk drink and/or meal - this is not included in the price (though I have been known to get the first round in on occasion!)

Season Tickets

Q. What if I already know I can't make a date for one of the walks on my season ticket?

A. Please get in touch if you are unable to make a date - we will look to put on an extra date that is convenient for you.

Q. What if I can no longer make one of the events on my season ticket?

A. Please get in touch, and we will transfer you to another date for the event. If there are no other dates available that you can make, we will look to put on an extra date that is mutually convenient. Alternatively, we are happy for you to 'gift' your place on an event to someone else of your choosing, if you are unable to make it.

Q. If I purchase a season ticket, do I need to book each event individually/know which dates I want to attend?

A. When you select to purchase a season ticket, you will be asked to select which of the available dates you wish to attend - this ensures that you are not disappointed if a date you have your eye on sells out.

The Logistics

Q. Are there different travel options to get to the start point?

A. Each event is different, but on the whole, events will be arranged to start in locations where parking is available. Sometimes early start times are reflective of the need to get to the car park early, before it is full!

For public transport options, please get in touch. Most meeting points are accessible via a local bus service, but will require some co-ordination, and probably an overnight stay.

Q. Do I need to arrive on the day before/stay the day after?

A. This depends on where the event is held, and where you are travelling from. I travel from Leeds, and would say that for me, staying over the night before for events in Scotland is essential, highly desirable for events in Wales, and optional for events in the Lake District. The LATEST that any of our events will start is 0930, so please bear this in mind when making plans

Q. What if I need to draw or write?

A. We carry some convenient foam seats to allow us to hunker down in nature when we need to do some drawing and writing. For group sessions in wetter weather, we carry a tarp that we can set up to be able to shelter and draw any diagrams/nice pictures/plans for world domination.

Q. Where do we meet?

A. We will meet in a local cafe prior to the event. Where possible, we will aim to walk directly from the cafe; in some cases it may be a short drive to the start point. You may wish to car-share with other participants to save money/congestion or reduce the environmental impact.

Q. Are the events circular?

A. Yes, all routes are circular, and start and end at the same point

Equipment

Q. Do I need specialist equipment?

A. A full guide of what to bring will be provided (and I have provided a video here), but generally if you already do any hill walking, you probably have everything you need. If you want to invest in good kit I would recommend these are your priorities (I honestly think everything else you can get on a budget):

  1. A good, comfy pair of walking boots, preferably with Vibram soles

  2. A decent lightweight waterproof jacket

  3. A comfy pair of hiking socks

We will provide any workshop materials you may need on the day (notebooks/pencils etc.).

Fitness

Q. How fit do I need to be?

A. If you do any hillwalking, particularly if you have been for longer walks over the course of a day, you will find the days challenging, but well within your capability. If you are not used to hillwalking, please get in touch once you have booked, and I can send over 2-3 practice routes local to you, to help to build up a level of fitness.

Q. Do I need to be able to climb/have climbing skills?

A. All of the routes are 'walks', and do not require any prior technical climbing skills. Some of the routes cover some Grade 1 Scrambling ground - this is where you may need to use your hands to move over rock, and there may be some exposure. You will be guided over these obstacles where needed. More details about the level of each route is contained within the individual events.

General

Q. Can I bring my dog?

A. Not on these ones I'm afraid - these are long days, with workshops throughout and sometimes tricky terrain - I'm not sure your dog will appreciate the adventure quite as much as you!

Q. Can you run a Meet Your Mountain walkshop privately for my company?

A. Yes! We can deliver any of the events privately for groups of up to 6, on a mutually convenient date. We can also deliver bespoke Walkshops on bespoke routes. Please see here for more information
